The Zambian football fraternity was hit with the terrible news that seven players for Chavuma Town Council football club had died on the spot in a road traffic accident in Lukunyi village of Zambezi District of Northwestern Province on Saturday afternoon.

The players were on a Haice bus with registration number AID 6983 on their way to Mufumbwe district in the same province for a FAZ Northwestern Province Division One League match.

The bus was transporting 19 people, including the head coach, Musa Simoonga, and his assistants, Elijah Makina and Jimmy Siazingele, all of whom are in critical condition at Chavuma Mission Hospital.

Chavuma Town Council, the team’s owners, stated in a statement seen by BolaNews that the tragedy occurred when the driver lost control between Lukunyi and Ndondo in Zambezi district, killing seven persons on the scene and injuring twelve.

“The bus was carrying 19 passengers, resulting in a devastating toll: 7 fatalities, including 6 players and 1 council official,” read the statement in part.

“Additionally, 12 individuals have been admitted to Chavuma Mission Hospital and Chavuma District Hospital, with several in critical condition.”
