Zambian Super League Champions Power Dynamos have unveiled Oswald Mutapa as their new head coach.

Since the resignation of Mwenya Chipepo last November, the first assistant coach, Linos Makwaza, has been in charge of the team.

Mutapa, who left Nkwazi FC last week, joins the reigning Zambian champions on a two-year, six-month contract with an option to extend depending on performance.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Kitwe on Tuesday morning, Mutapa feels the club still has the potential to defend the league title and return to continental competition.

“It’s an exciting challenge but I guess it’s not a walk in the park if you look at how teams are performing right now,” he said. “But with determination and working hard together, I think nothing is impossible, especially looking at the quality of players that Power Dynamos have.”

He continued: “We will try and do our best and hopefully we get to greater heights and for me, this is something that I wanted. When I was with Nkwazi, it was in second place, but coming to the Champions, it is something that is special for me.

“Hopefully we get the results. Our short-term target is to lift the title again and get back to continental football so that we can conquer Africa.”

Meanwhile, the rest of the technical bench will maintain their positions and back the new coach.

Power Dynamos are now third with 33 points from 20 games, and Mutapa will be expected to help the team defend its championship and return to continental football.
