Nkana and Power Dynamos will today put their rivalry aside as they join forces to pay last respect to three of their fans who died in a road traffic accident on the Kitwe – Ndola road after last weekend’s Kitwe derby.
On Saturday, Power and Nkana entertained fans to a football spectacle, but an afternoon of football joy turned into a night for anguish for Joseph Lungu, Osward Katebula and Wedson Muwowo who died in a road accident.
The club said in a joint statement that the three would be buried at Chingola Road cemetery.
The Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe will host a funeral service before to the burial.
“The families of the deceased have agreed to hold a joint burial service for Joseph Lungu, Osward Katebula, and Wedson Muwowo. This service will take place at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe, starting at 10:00 hours, and later burial programme at the Chingola Cemetery.
“The two clubs have assisted in financing the burial arrangements, reflecting our shared commitment to support the grieving families during this challenging time.
“We are also grateful to the supporters from both clubs for their solidarity and contributions during this mourning period. This unity underscores the strong bond between the supporters of the two clubs.
“We invite all stakeholders who include friends, and supporters cutting across the different clubs in the Zambian Premier League to come together in solidarity during this difficult time to pay their respects to the gallant soldiers of Zambian football,” The statement read.
