Following a second straight loss, Kabwe Warriors’ hopes of winning the 2024–25 MTN Super League title took even another hit.

Power Dynamos, who moved up to the top of the league after Zesco United’s goalless draw with Forest Rangers in Ndola, defeated Warriors 3-1 at home.

The Magnificent People’s team faltered last weekend, losing to Green Buffaloes by a slim margin of 1-0 in Lusaka.

After the game, assistant coach Derick Mulenga acknowledged that the team’s objective was to regain the top rank and voiced his profound regret with the outcome.

“This game was one where we hoped to collect maximum points, at least to go back to second or first on the log, but it was a disappointing result,” he said.

Warriors, now third on the table with 44 points, four behind new leaders Power Dynamos and two behind second-placed Zesco United, struggled to recover from early setbacks. First-half goals from Chifundo Mphasi in the 17th minute and an Austin Muwowo penalty in the 32nd minute left them trailing.

“I think in the first half; we allowed two goals. It’s usually difficult to come back from two down,” Mulenga admitted.

Warriors pulled one back through Gabriel Banda in the 58th minute, briefly raising hopes of a comeback. However, former Warriors player, Mphasi sealed the win for Dynamos with his second goal, restoring their two-goal cushion in 66 minutes.

“When we started the second half, we got one goal, and that gave us hope that we could get another,” Mulenga added.

Looking ahead, Kabwe Warriors will travel to Mazabuka for a crucial clash against FC MUZA, who are also coming off a defeat after losing 2-1 to Atletico Lusaka.
