Despite sitting second, six points adrift of leaders Power Dynamos, Zesco United still believe they can end their league title drought by winning their remaining five games of the season.
At the weekend, Zesco dropped the ball and allowed Power to open up a six-point lead at the summit when they lost 1–0 to the Kitwe side at Arthur Davies Stadium.
The result has left the club on the brink of missing out on the title for the fourth year running, having last won it in 2021.
However, striker Freddy Michael has said the league is far from over.
“We continue pushing because we believe we can still make it, we still have five games to go so we are still on the road [to the title],” he said in an interview with the club’s media.
That five-match run sees them host MUZA today before travelling to face Kabwa Warriors. A home tie against Lumwana Radiants will follow before matches against Mutondo Stars and Atletico Lusaka.
Michael said the pressure is on leaders at Power Dynamos.
“Those are just points; in football anything can happen. They [Power] know that any loss for them is going to be crucial so the pressure is on them. We are going to win all our remaining games so I am sure we will be back,” he said
The run he is talking about needs to start with a win when they face MUZA.
“We are at home, the boys are ready, everyone is focused, we are at home and as usual we are going to take it,” he said.
