The Zambian Super League last weekend entered Week 8 and it was a goals galore across the various stadia in the country with only one match ending in a barren draw. There is a change on top. Here are out 5 talking points from Week 8 of the Super League.
Red Arrows fly to the summit
Zambia Air Force sponsored side Red Arrows football club recorded a remarkable come back to beat Chambishi 4-3 on Saturday.
It was a 7-goal thriller as Chambishi hosted Red Arrows at Chambishi Stadium with the host side taking an early lead in the 3rd minute through Innocent Kashitu which was cancelled out by Paul Katebe’s goal in the 13th minute to level the scores.
However, the home side took the lead in the 20th minute via a Chabala Kasanda goal before Conlyde Luchanga equalized in the 37th minute, and immediately Mathews Simbeye restored the lead for Chambishi in the 38th minute.
Goals from Thomas Zulu and Cephas Handavu in the 80th and 88th minutes ensured Red Arrows collected maximum points in a highly contested encounter with the most number of goals scored.
With the win, Arrows moved top of the Super League table with 17 points, one better than second-placed Prison Leopards while Chambishi remain in the relegation mark with 4 points from 8 matches.

Zanaco finally win, and Lumwana stumble on the road
The seven times Super League winners finally broke the long run of defeats and draws by beating Lumwana Randiants via a 1-nil score line at Sunset stadium.
Boyd Musonda’s strike in the 55th minute was the difference and ended the long stretch of winless matches for Bankers whose last win came on 4th September 2022 when they beat Nkana 2-1 at Nkana Stadium in a Week 3 encounter.
Before Saturday’s 1-0 win over Lumwana, Zanaco lost 2 matches and recorded 2 draws, thereby collecting only 2 points from a possible 12.
On the other hand, Lumwana has only kept one clean sheet on the road, 0-0 against Kabwe Warriors and has conceded 5 goals.
Green Eagles record first away win
Having struggled on the road this season, Choma-based side Green Eagles finally got their formula right in Week 8, when they faced Buildcon Football Club in Ndola.
In what was Alex Namazaba’s second match as interim head coach, Eagles added misery to Buildcon’s poor start to the 2022/23 Super League season.
Amity Shamende’s brace, which came in the 40th and 75th plus Hosea Silwimba’s goal in the 87th minute condemned Buildcon to a 7th defeat of the season, conceding a whopping 18 goals in the first eight matches.
Eagles moved to 11 points in 8th position while Buildcon is carrying all 17 sides on their shoulders at the bottom of the table with only a point.
No change at the bottom
As the League entered Week 8, Nkwazi, Nkana, Chambishi and Buildcon were in the troubled relegation waters in the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th positions respectively.
Despite scoring three goals against Green Buffaloes in a 3-3 draw, the Policemen could not move out of the relegation zone as a point was not enough.
Just like Nkwazi, Nkana added a point to their tally of the season as of Week 8 while Chambishi and Buildcon dropped all the precious points.
Goals Goals galore!!
What a weekend! Super League fans were treated to a weekend full of goals compared to just 9 goals in Week 7.
There was only one match which ended in a barren draw in Week 8 involving Kansanshi Dynamos and Napsa Stars while the rest of the matches had at least a goal scored.
Only four teams failed to score a goal – Kansanshi Dynamos, Napsa Stars, Buildcon and Lumwana Radiants.
A total of 17 goals were scored with Red Arrows accounting for 4; Chambishi, Eagles, Nkwazi, Buffaloes and Power Dynamos all scored 3 goals in their respective matches.
Two players scored a brace each; Amity Shamende (Green Eagles) and Kennedy Musonda (Power Dynamos).
Landu Miete was the only player that carried his scoring boots from Week 7 as he put Prison Leopards in the lead despite them drawing 1-1 against Nchanga Rangers.
