FC Muza suffered a major setback in their quest to finish second in the Zambia Super League, losing 2-1 to Zesco United on Wednesday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

To finish second and qualify for the CAF Confederations Cup for the second time in a row, the Elegant Dynamites must avoid defeat and hope Zesco United and Power Dynamos drop points in their final three games.

After impressing at the start of the 2023-24 season, the Mazabuka-based team has been inconsistent in recent matches.

The loss to Zesco United dropped them to fourth place with 49 points from 30 matches played.

It was their seventh defeat of the season, but with only three games remaining, they can still qualify for the Confederations Cup if they win all three.

Speaking to the club’s media, FC Muza assistant coach Billy Imonda stated that the team learned valuable lessons from the 2-1 defeat and will correct their mistakes in their home game.

“We have picked up and taken positives from the two losses we suffered to Zesco United. We will make amends in the next game against the Green Buffaloes on Saturday.

“And we still remain optimistic that the team will be able to rise up and pick up maximum points in the remaining three games,” he said.

Meanwhile, Muza will host Green Buffaloes, who have gone winless in their last four games. They lost 0-0 against Nkana on Thursday and are now in danger of relegation.
