Super league debutant, FC MUZA have become the first side from Mazabuka and the second super league side from the Southern region of Zambia, after Green Eagles of Choma, to play continental football, following a historical achievement.

FC MUZA’s weekend got off to a perfect start on Friday when a boardroom decision awarded the “Elegant Dynamites” three more points even before taking to the pitch against Zanaco football on Saturday.

The disciplinary committee of the football association of Zambia gifted MUZA, the points via a 3-0 scoreline for an abandoned week 30 fixture against dethroned champions, Red Arrows, in a match played at Nkoloma stadium.

The encounter between the two sides was level at the break following goals from Paul Katema and Andrew Phiri. However, things got heated in the tunnel when Red Arrows security men are accused of assaulting FC MUZA players and staff.

Ultimately, a decision was made awarding FC MUZA three points and a K20,000 punishment against the Air Force-sponsored team.

In light of this, FC MUZA went into their match against Zanaco, knowing that a win against the Bankers would guarantee them a place to compete in continental football., and the sweet boys took the match to the visitors.

Rickson N’gambi combined with club hitman, Andrew Phiri, to give the home side a one nil lead, in the 25th minute, eight minutes later, Andrew took his goal tally, to 14 to take full control of the match. Zanaco pulled one back through Chiteta Kwalombata, in the 37th minute.

What else is there for FC MUZA?

FC MUZA campaign in the elite league has been nothing short of remarkable, as they toppled all odds and giants to progress to the CAF Confederations Cup.

Lameck Banda’s men currently sit on 56 points from 33 matches in the FAZ MTN Super League, where they will finish runners-up to Power Dynamos FC. Achieving this fate, FC MUZA, will go for nothing but a victory in the ABSA Cup final against Forest Rangers on May 20 at the National Heroes stadium.
