Defender John Mwengani has shared his experience at South African club Golden Arrows, describing his one-and-a-half-year spell as “eye-opening” and a period of immense personal growth both on and off the pitch.

Mwengani, who recently returned home after the expiry of his contract with the Durban-based Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, has exclusively told Bolanews that he is now seeking a fresh challenge.

“It was a great experience for me,” he said from his base in Kansanshi. “Playing in South Africa helped me see football from a different perspective. The level of professionalism and the competition pushed me to become a better player.”

The 30-year-old, who joined Golden Arrows early from Kansanshi Dynamos last year, featured in several league appearances. He was part of the team that finished 12th with 31 points.

“Right now, I am keeping fit and staying ready. I am open to new opportunities, whether here in Zambia or abroad. I want to be somewhere where I can compete, grow, and contribute,” Mwengani said.

The former Nkana defender also urged young Zambian footballers to embrace challenges beyond the country’s borders, adding that the exposure can be transformative.

“It’s not easy being away from home, but the lessons you learn make it worthwhile. I would encourage others to take that leap when the chance comes,” he said.
