Zanaco Football Club head coach Numba Mumamba has said his side remains firmly on course to achieve their target of finishing in the top four of the MTN Super League despite dropping points in their latest outing.

The Bankers were held to a 1-1 draw by Green Buffaloes in a Week 24 encounter played at Edwin Imboela Stadium on Thursday.

The result leaves Green Buffaloes in 10th place on the table with 29 points, while Zanaco is fifth with 38 points.

Speaking after the match, Mumamba described the encounter as a tough contest but heaped praise on his players for their response after falling behind.

“It was a very tough game this afternoon. Buffaloes went ahead, but we came back strongly after we made some changes,” Mumamba said.

“We played according to our tactical plan, but Buffaloes compressed high and we couldn’t play to our strengths. We had to start pushing the ball forward so that we could fight for the second balls and try to create chances to get the equaliser,” he said.

Mumamba maintained that Zanaco’s primary objective remains securing a place among the top four teams by the end of the campaign.

“All the teams in the top six have an opportunity to finish in the top two. But for us, our objective this season is to finish in the top four. If we finish in the top two, that will be a bonus,” he said.

Chiyangi slums blunt attack

Meanwhile, Green Buffaloes head coach Aggrey Chiyangi said the team has remained blunt in front of goal as they fail to convert clear-cut chances despite improvements in the defence and midfield.

“The biggest challenge that we have is scoring. Because if you see, in the first half we created so many chances. But what we are lacking is the finishing touch. That is what we are lacking,” he stated.

“The defence is doing very fine. The midfield is doing very fine. But again, what we are lacking so much is just the striking force.”
