Zesco United assistant coach Tenant Chilumba thinks his team still has a chance to win the 2023–24 season, even if they are 10 points behind League title challengers Red Arrows.

The Chisi Mbewe-coached team, who won the league championships in 2003–04 and 2021–22, is vying for a third crown.

In a Week 28 match, the nine-time Zambian champions Zesco lost 2-0 against Red Arrows, dropping them to second place with 50 points.

Two minutes into the first half’s extra time, Ricky Banda gave Arrows the lead. In the 85th minute, Vice-Captain Yusuf Saddam increased the lead to two goals.

With six games left before the season ends, the outcome guaranteed the Airmen a 10-point advantage at the top of the standings.

Speaking to journalists after the match, Chilumba said the team will continue fighting as they still have a chance to finish in the top two.

“I think we lost concentration in the last few minutes we wanted to get a goal, but unfortunately, we conceded another goal so I think it disturbed the rhythm of the game all in all we just have to continue fighting there is still hope we can finish in the top two, “he said.

“We still have to go back to the drawing board we just have to focus and continue pushing, we still have a chance to win the league,” Chilumba noted.
