With six matches remaining in the 2023–24 season, Kabwe Warriors head coach Numba Mumamba hopes to qualify the club for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Walya Nganga rallied from behind to defeat Kansanshi Dynamos 2-1, bringing their point total to 41 in sixth place.

Mumamba’s charges have two draws, two wins, and one loss in their last five games.

Following Wednesday’s win, Mumamba stated that the team’s focus will now be on claiming all three points over the Green Eagles in their next match.

Mumamba is confident that a win over the Green Eagles will propel his side over Nkwazi and thus FC MUZA before they can challenge Power Dynamos and ZESCO for third place and second positions, respectively.

“It is a very important win at home. It was a tough game playing against Kansanshi; looking at where they are on the table, they are trying to survive relegation,” Mumamba said. “Picking two wins on the trout is something that will motivate us as we go to Green Eagles. We will work hard to ensure the team is ready.”

Mumamba happy with ‘safe zone’

The former ZESCO United coach is relieved that Kabwe Warriors has now reached the 40-point mark.

“The 40-point mark in football is what we call the safe zone for the teams that are in this competition [the league]. Getting to 41 points is something that will reduce pressure on us,” he stated.

Mumamba said the team, which also reached the semifinals of the Absa Cup, will now go all out to overtake the teams ahead of them on the log standings.

“It is a very important game [versus Green Eagles]. This is a game that we have to win at all costs….. Because we want to catch up with the two teams ahead of us, Nkwazi and MUZA. Our target is to overtake these two teams, then we start chasing Power and ZESCO United,” he concluded.
