Striker, James Chamanga has explained why Red Arrows Football Club failed to defend the the Zambian Super League.

After winning the League last season, the Airmen failed to defend their title after a poor campaign.

With only a game to go before the season wraps up, Red Arrows are currently placed ninth in the league standings with 47 points.

Chamanga, however, has provided an explanation for the team’s poor performance this season.

“If you look at the point difference in the league standings, the gap is minimal but when you win the league, it’s not easy to defend the title,” he told Kwithu FM.

He also stated that the signing of new players also contributed to the team’s poor campaign.

“Mostly you find that you have new players, and for them to fit in the team, it usually takes time. So you find that by the time they are adapting to the system of the team, the league is long gone.”

Chamanga lavishes praise on F.C MUZA

The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winner, who joined the Airmen in 2019, also congratulated F.C. Muza for finishing second and securing qualification for continental football next season.

“I would like to congratulate F.C MUZA for having had a good season. It’s not easy having just been promoted to the Super League… But of course they will have to work hard now because they are representing the nation. Otherwise, it’s not an easy competition; it requires a lot of hard work,” he said.

Chamanga finished as the league’s top scorer with 16 goals in the 2019/20 season. This season he has scored only four goals in the league.
