Perry Mutapa’s men rose to the occasion in a closely contested match at Sunset Stadium on Wednesday. The first half ended evenly at 1-1, with Derrick Bulaya opening the scoring in the 15th minute.
Zanaco’s persistent pressure eventually paid off when Araina Lambert capitalized on a loose save to level matters and send the home fans into jubilation before halftime.
With everything to play for in the second half, the match delivered plenty of drama. A lengthy stoppage saw Zanaco’s Wilson Chisala miss from the penalty spot, a costly error that would later prove decisive. The Bankers were punished for that miss as Derrick Bulaya struck again in the 89th minute to restore Eagles’ lead.
Despite 12 minutes of added time, Zanaco failed to find an equalizer.
Speaking after the match, Mutapa praised Bulaya, stating that “I had a chat with Derrick and told him that he can score a lot of goals at Eagles because we create a lot of chances.”
He further emphasized the importance of consistency for his side, which has now recorded back-to-back victories, adding that “the most important thing in football is to build on what you’re already doing, so far so good, the second round has been good, I think the boys have gelled.”
“We just have to continue doing the good things which we are doing during training, in order to maintain the momentum we just have to keep our feet down.”
Following the victory, Green Eagles have climbed four places to fourth on the table, while Zanaco currently sits seventh.
