Bitter rival sides, Mufulira Wanderers and Nkana played out to a 1-1 stalemate in their midweek fixture at Shinde Stadium on Thursday.
In a highly contested match, Bartuel Tembo put the home side in the lead in the 65th minute.
Nkana got an equalizer through Dave Daka, via a penalty in the 80th minute.
The result pushed Wanderers to 5th place with 42 points from 26 games played. Nkana is 11th with 31 points from the same number of matches.
Reacting to the result, Mufulira Wanderers Coach Lameck Banda praised Nkana for their improved performance.
“I think the game was okay for both teams. It’s fair that we shared the points, and I must mention that I saw an improved Nkana side. I must commend them for that spirited fight,” he said.
“It’s a fair result” – Nkhoma.
Meanwhile, Nkana assistant coach Josphat Nkhoma expressed satisfaction with the result.
“A derby is always a derby; Mighty playing Nkana is always like that. It can go either way; it’s how you plan the game and how you prepare for each other. I think it’s a fair result for the team. It wasn’t an easy game. First of all, we were coming here to win; we trained to win this game,” he said.
“Mighty is also looking at the way they are playing this season; they are in top form. Going forward we just have to appreciate the one point we were playing away. I am happy a lot of supporters were here in numbers; let them continue supporting us, we are going to deliver,” added the coach.
Mufulira Wanderers will face Kabwe Warriors on the 1st of April in Kabwe, while Nkana will host Red Arrows on the 1st of April at Nkana Stadium.
