Arrows revive chance in title race, Warriors end four-match winless run

Defending champions Red Arrows have sent a clearest indication that they are not easily giving up on their title as they have remained within sight of leaders Power Dynamos following a 2 – 1 win over Nchanga Rangers.

Arrows wrestled the title from Power last season but it appears the opposite is about to happen this season as they sit fifth on the log.

The Lusaka side’s biggest consolation is that they are still with a mathematical chance to retain the title with six games left before the end of the season.

This afternoon, they dispatched struggling Rangers with goals from Ackim Mumba and Godfrey Ngwenya.

Mumba opened the scoring on the 30th minute, but the scores were levelled five minute later after a mishap in the Arrows backline.

Four minutes from the break, Chisi Mbewe’s team regained control of the game when former Power skipper Ngwenya put one beyond Victor Chabu.

“Tough game it was for us, we thought we were going to get a good result but it dint come our way,” said Boyd Mulwanda, Nchanga Rangers’ Assistant coach.

Red Arrows’ coach, Mbewe also said: “We are happy the way we have played. We played according to the way we planned. The players responded the way we wanted to play.

“The win is a great relief, as Champions of last season we have set goals and i think it has not been an easy run for us this season.”

Kachinga records first win with Kabwe Warriors

In Kabwe, Warriors have started life under Albert Kachinga on a winning note after they defeated Lumwana Radiants 2 – 0 at Railways Stadium.

Before the game, Warriors had not picked a win in their last four games. They were on a run of three losses and one draw.

They will hope their luck continues under the former Copper Queens coach who was appointed Mumamba Numba’s permanent replacement earlier this week.

David Obashi set the ball rolling in the 45th minute when he converted a penalty. In the second half, Francis Banda doubled the lead to ensure a comfortable home win.

Warriors remain fourth with 48 points, six behind Power while Lumwana lost an opportunity to leave the relegation zone. Bilton Musonda’s charges are 15th with 31 points.
