FIFA Lowers Zambian Flag To Pay Tribute To Chavuma Players Who Tragically Died in RTA

FIFA President Gianni Infantino says he is deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of the players.

The Zambian flag has been lowered at the Home of FIFA in Zurich to pay tribute to the Chavuma Town Council players who died in a road accident on Saturday.

The players were on a Haice bus on their way to Mufumbwe district in the same province for a FAZ Northwestern Province Division One League match when they met their fate.

Of the 19 passagers on board, five players died on the spot including the driver and the club’s secretary.

Twelve survived the fatal accident, with five of them evacuated to Lusaka for specialist treatment at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has said in a statement to BolaNews that : “I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic road accident in Zambia which led to the passing of seven players from Chavuma Town Council FC.

“On behalf of FIFA and the entire footballing community, I would like to express my sincere condolences to Chavuma Town Council FC, to the Football Association of Zambia, Confédération Africaine de Football, and to the families, teammates, friends and loved ones of the victims. Rest in peace.”
