The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has announced that it will distribute grants to teams in the Women’s Super League and Women’s National Division One League to promote women’s football development.

“Each Super League team will receive K100,000, while teams in the National Division One League will benefit from K50,000 each, totaling 49 teams across both leagues,” ZPL announced in a statement on Monday morning.

“The grants are structured in two installments of K50,000 and K25,000 for the ZPL Women Super League and the ZPL Women National League, respectively.”

ZPL also revealed that the grants will be disbursed in two installments, the first in September 2024 and the second between January and March 2025, and that some teams have already received the first installment.

It is the first time in Zambian women’s football history that the National Division One teams will be financially supported.

The ZPL says it is using resources from its various sponsors to help women’s football grow, and it is encouraging the corporate world to get involved.

Meanwhile, Elite Ladies FC, a Women’s Super League club, confirmed last week that it had received K30,000 “as an advance payment for the 2024/2025 season’s prize money and appearance fee.”

Other clubs have yet to confirm if they have also received.
