The absence of her sister Temwa from the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Women’s Footballer of the Year Award nomination list has surprised Tabitha Chawinga, a female football player from Malawi.
Chawinga, the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) striker is not happy when she looks back to what Temwa had achieved in last year’s edition.
Temwa helped her team, the Scorchers, win their first-ever regional championship during the Cosafa games in South Africa. During the same tournament, she won the Golden Boot award and named Player of the Tournament.
The same year, Temwa also won the World’s top scorer accolade with 63 goals, nine more than men’s winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I am not saying this because Temwa is my sister, that is not the case but at what she achieved last season,” she said.
Temwa will compete together with the Zambian duo of Barbara Banda and Rachel Kundananji in the United States, something that has shocked her sister.
“I am shocked, but we just have to leave everything in God’s hands. Maybe the organizers have their own reasons,” she told The Nation in Malawi.
Temwa who plays for United States National Women’s Soccer League side Kansas City, says she is not bitter with Cosafa’s decision saying God’s time is the best.

“Maybe that’s why I’m not there—I believe there are factors they took into account when choosing the nominees,” she remarked.
