Last week, Witika, a one-time winner of the NWFL with the Bayelsa Queens, officially joined the Asaba-based Delta Queens on a two-year contract.
She joined Bayelsa Queens in 2022 on a one-year deal from Tanzanian side Tiger Queens and went on to win the league at the end of the season.
In an interview with BolaNews, Witika, a defensive midfielder, declared herself ready for the challenge at her club.
She reveals that her target is to help the club in its title defense, which will also be her second title since moving to Nigeria.
“I’m very excited, all thanks to the almighty God,” she said. “I feel at home already, and it’s really a great opportunity for me so that I can learn some new things at my new club.”
Witika added, “The difference will be there [between old and new clubs], but you know it is always good for a footballer to have a new challenge. I would be very happy to win the league back-to-back with my new club.”
With Delta Queens in 6th position as of Week 7 of the NWFL’s Group B standings, after 2 wins, 3 draws, and 2 defeats, Witika’s experience will come in handy for the Star girls.
‘Competition is very high in Copper Queens selection’- Witika
The 26-year-old midfielder remains hopeful of a comeback to the Copper Queens squad for upcoming assignments this year. She is, however, aware of how competitive it is to earn a call-up to the national team.
“It’s every player’s dream to be called to the national team, but looking at the competition, it is very high on the national team,” Witika said. “Once you are given an opportunity, you need to show hard work and dedication. The Zambia women’s league is doing well, and it is producing a lot of players for the national team.”
