Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga has continued with her impressive scoring form in the National Women’s Soccer League, netting her record 15th goal on the weekend in her debut season with Kansas City Current.

The 25-year-old Kansas City Current forward scored on Sunday for the Kansas side that defeated the Utah Royals 1-0.

It was her eighth consecutive game of scoring, making her the fifth player in NWSL history to score at least 15 goals in a single season.

She joined a select group of stars who had accomplished the same feat, including retired Alex Morgan, Kim Little and Sam Kerr, among others.

In an exclusive interview with BolaNews last week, Chawinga stated that her priority is to help her team win as many games as possible without breaking records.

“I am amazed; however, I am not moved by what I have achieved; I will keep putting much effort to help my team,” she said.

“I am just playing my game and will accept everything that God will give me. Remember, it is my first season, so I should see how the game will progress.”

Chawinga is now the 2024 NWSL’s leading scorer, with 15 goals and 6 assists in 19 games, ahead of Zambia and Orlando Pride’s Ballon d’Or nominee Barbra Banda, who has 12 goals and 5 assists in 15 games.

The Malawian has helped her team sit third in the standings with 38 points, behind the Washington Spirit and Orlando Pride, who are second and first with 41 and 47 points, respectively.
