The addition of Copper Queens defender Pauline Zulu and striker Comfort Selemani would bolster Zanaco Ladies FC, according to head coach Florence Mwila.
With 22 points from 19 games played, the Lusaka-based team is currently ranked 11th in the log for the 2024–25 Eden University Women’s Super League.
Zanaco signed the duo from Elite Ladies FC for a total of K300,000 (about USD 18,000). They will report on 1st January 2025.
This is the most costly local move in the history of the Women’s Super League (Selemani: K130,000, Zulu: K170,000).
Speaking In an exclusive interview with Bolanews, Mwila expressed her optimism: “The coming in of Pauline and Comfort is a good addition to the squad. It will bring in competition and strengthen the team.”
“This Break Is Good For Us”- Mwila.
Zanaco spent a significant portion of the first half of the season battling relegation before picking up form in the final five games. Mwila revealed that injuries were a major factor in their slow start:
“Our key challenge was injuries. Lot of people didn’t know but there were a lot of injuries. That’s why there was no consistency. The good part is we are out of relegation.”
With the league on break until January 11th, Mwila believes the pause came at an opportune time:
“We are utilizing this break to have our players checked. We are happy that there is a break. This break is good for us because the girls will be able to get proper treatment and a good number of them will be back”
The addition of Zulu and Selemani, coupled with the return of injured players, could be the catalyst for Zanaco Ladies to climb the table in the second half of the season.
