South Africa beat Costa Rica in pre-World Cup warm up match

Costa Rica suffered a 2-0 loss to African Champions South Africa in their final pre-World Cup match on Saturday.

Following a much-needed 2-0 triumph against Haiti in their previous match, the North Americans suffered yet another defeat ahead of the World Cup.

South Africa took the lead in the 31st minute through one-time African Footballer of the Year award winner Thembi Kgatlana, before Hildah Magaia scored the second goal in the 55th minute.

Banyana Banyana have been inconsistent since winning the Africa Cup for the first time last year. They have struggled in friendlies, winning only one and losing seven of their last 10.

They are in Group E alongside Italy, Argentina, and Sweden while Costa Rica, are in Group C alongside Spain, Japan, and Zambia.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/Newzealand will kickoff on 20th July.
