Morocco was eliminated from the FIFA Women’s World Cup’s final group stage after losing 4-0 against France in Adelaide.
They lost to Germany 6-0 in their first game before beating South Korea and Colombia both by a score of 1-0.
Reynald Pedros, the coach of Morocco, explained that his team’s performance in reaching the round of 16 in the women’s world cup was comparable to that of their male counterparts.
The Atlas Lions reached the semifinals during 2022 Qatar World Cup, becoming the first African country to achieve the fate.
“I believe that getting to the last 16 with this team, for the first time, is the equivalent of the guys getting to the semi-finals,” he explained.
Pedros said that his side will soon regroup and start preparing for the Paris Olympics qualification.
“I congratulate and thank them because what they have given us in terms of emotions is quite incredible. I am really proud to be coach of this team because we have fantastic players,” he said.
Atlas Lionesses motivated by their male counterparts.
The Atlas Lionesses coach credited the team’s pre-tournament preparations for their performance.
“We’ve been preparing for this World Cup as a team since June 12th, I don’t think we could have anticipated coming into the last group game with a chance of making the last 16,” he remarked.

The male Atlas Lions, the first African side to finish fourth in the World Cup in Qatar, served as inspiration for the female team going into the match.
