Zanaco Ladies FC and Copper Queens, Sarah Jere, who was the top scorer in last year’s COSAFA Women’s Championship, has undergone surgery after missing four months owing to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Her club confirmed on Wednesday that the former Tamanga Academy starlet had undergone successful surgery in South Africa.

“Striker Sarah Jere successfully underwent Right Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Extra-Articular Tenodesis reconstruction on May 21, 2024, at Netcare Linksfield Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa,” the club announced through their official Facebook page.

The statement continued: “She will now commence physiotherapy following the injury she sustained last December. She was accompanied by the team physiotherapist, Isabel Chisha.”

Jere is now expected to be out for the next six to seven months.

She was a fan favorite at last year’s Cosafa Women’s Championship, where she scored four goals.

Jere scored her first international goal against Angola, scoring twice to help Zambia win 3-1 in their second group-stage match.

She went on to score again from the penalty spot in Zambia’s 5-1 win over the Comoros.

Her solitary goal against Zimbabwe in the semifinals helped the Copper Queens advance to the final, where they were defeated 2-1 by Malawi.
