Zambia’s National Women’s Team coach, Bruce Mwape, has been named the sixth-best women’s coach by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

Emma Hayes, who had a successful career at Chelsea before taking on the role of national team head coach in the United States, won the 2024 Award. Hayes led the USWNT to the 2024 Women’s Olympic Football title in Paris.

Sarina Wiegman, England’s coach, has won the award three times since its inception in 2020. In 2021, Canada’s coach, Bev Priestman, received the award for leading the team to Olympic victory.

This year, Wiegman finished third behind Spain’s Montse Tome and eventual winner Hayes.

Mwape the only African in the top ten

Mwape is the only African coach in the top 10 rankings. He was positioned behind Brazil’s national team coach Arthur Elias (4th) and Germany’s Horst Hrubesch (5th).

He received 15 points from the voting panel, which comprised 81 experts and selected editorial offices from all continents.

Mwape guided the team to the 2024 Olympic Games, where they were eliminated at the group stage without a win. Additionally, he qualified for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations slated for Morocco.

In 2021, Mwape was honored by IFFHS with the CAF Best Women’s National Team Coach award for leading the team to their maiden Olympic Games.
