For a second time, Kansas City Current and Malawi Women’s Football team striker Temwa Chawinga has turned down a Scorchers’ call-up for next month’s friendly match against Tanzania and Ghana, opting for a personal trip to China.
Coach Lovemore Fazili included her in the squad as he wants to see all professional players before the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals between July 26 and August 16 in Morocco.
This is despite her club informing the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) that Temwa will be available and will facilitate her flight to Malawi.
A message, which Temwa informs FAM, indicates that she will not be available, as she plans to fly to China to buy material for her house project in Malawi.
“She said her visa to China is expiring on June 8, 8, so she wants to fly now and buy material since the person she has linked there will only be available next week. She said joining the squad will not be possible,” said the source.
FAM’s operations director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed the news to be true but refused to disclose details.

On April 8 this year, Temwa also turned down an invitation to join the Scorchers camp ahead of the Four Nations FIFA Series tournament in Kenya.
Her refusal came days, after Fazili had included her in a 35-provisional squad.
The last time Temwa played for the National Team was in February last year during a friendly match against Zambia.
