The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will this Thursday host draws for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Under-20 2026 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 2025 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Morocco is the host of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2026.
The qualifiers will consist of two rounds, with matches played on a home and away basis.
Six teams in the FIFA ranking are excluded from the first round of qualifying, consisting of 32 teams.
The exempted teams are Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Cameroon, and Cote d’Ivoire.
16 teams from the first round will progress, and the six exempted teams will also enter the competition.
Drawn from Pots 1 and 2, Copper Queens will play the winners of matches 11 and 12 of the first-round qualifiers.
Pot 1 comprises less-ranked COSAFA and CECAFA teams: Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Eswatini, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Pot 2 has higher-ranked teams from the COSAFA, CECAFA, and UNIFFAC: Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Equatorial Guinea, DR Congo, and Congo.

The 2026 WAFCON serves as a qualifier for the Brazil 2026 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Africa has two intercontinental playoff spots and four direct slots.
“The FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 is already taking shape, and we can’t wait for the opening match on Thursday, 24 June 2027—and all matches that lead to the final on Sunday, 25 July 2027,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
“This historic tournament will have a massive impact not only in South America but around the whole world, taking the women’s game to the next level in terms of participation and popularity.”
Furthermore, CAF will hold the FIFA 2025 U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, which will take place in Morocco. 28 African nations will compete for the five qualification slots available for Africa.
38 nations will be compete for one of the four spots for Africa in the 24-nation U20 Women’s FIFA World Cup.
