Zambian midfielder Kings Kangwa is expected to make his debut in the competition tonight.
His Serbian side Red Star Belgrade is set to battle it out with defending champions Manchester City in their Uefa Champions League group opener at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
Kangwa has been outstanding for the Serbian giants since joining them and has helped them win the league title and qualify for the Uefa Champions League.
He could tonight become the sixth Zambian to play in the Champions League group stage since the competition’s rebranding in 1992.
Last season, the 24-year-old midfielder scored eight goals and provided one assist in 32 games, while this season he has played in seven games and provided two assists.
Meanwhile, Kangwa told Bolanews exclusively that playing in the Champions League would be a dream come true.
“I’m not promising anything,” he said. “I’m just here to enjoy the game and am super proud of myself to be on this big stage. It’s a dream come true indeed.”
Meanwhile, Miguel Chaiwa of BSC Young Boys is another Zambian who could make his Champions League debut.
Chaiwa is part of the Young Boys that will also face RB Leipzig in the group stage tonight.

The 19-year-old defensive defender has played one game so far in the league, while last season he played six games.
