Nigeria’s Osimhen and Lookman tearing Italian Serie A apart

The Nigerian duo of Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have been sensational in the Italian top flight this season, scoring 24 goals in total, more than anyone else.

Last season Osimhen suffered a fractured eye socket in a 3-2 defeat to Inter in the Serie A. That saw many people concerned about the player’s subsequent form. The unfortunate injury saw him miss two months of football.

At the time, Lookman was on loan at Leicester City FC from RB Leipzig. The winger was also previously loaned to another Premier League outfit, Fulham. Unfortunately, they suffered relegation to the EFL Championship that season.

However, 2022 was going to be an interesting year for the English-born forward. He was handed his international debut for the Super Eagles before signing for Serie A side Atalanta BC.

Osimhen

The Nigerian duo has been taking the Italian Serie A by storm this season. It seems like Osimhen’s facial injury has made him more prolific in front of goal. The SSC Napoli center-forward has netted an impressive 13 league goals this season. Only bettered by Erling Haaland’s ridiculous numbers and Harry Kane’s 15 Premier League goals in Europe’s top five leagues.

The Suger Eagles marksman, who now dons a black face mask, has formed a formidable partnership with 21-year-old Kvaratskhelia, which has powered SSC Napoli 12 points clear in the title race.

Lookman

Chasing Osimhen in the race for the Golden Boot in the Serie A is his fellow countryman Lookman. He has found the back of the net 11 times in the league this season.

He has proved to be very pivotal for Atalanta as they chase Champions League qualification, scoring three consecutive braces in his last three league games.

The performances of the two have kept Super Eagles fans on the edge of their seats, as they hope that the duo can help inspire their country to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.
