San Marino managed to end a run of 18 successive defeats on Wednesday but couldn’t get a victory, as they played out to a 0-0 draw with Seychelles in a friendly between the two FIFA’s lowest-ranked sides.

The landlocked European country failed to grab only their second ever international victory Yesterday.

San Marino, which is landlocked in Italy and with a population of 33,000, were pitted against Seychelles which is Africa’s smallest country, with a population three times more than the hosts, but who also have a Similarly poor record in world football.

The La Serenissima who have not won for 18 years and are bottom of the rankings of FIFA’s 211 member countries were preparing for their last Nations League group game at home to Estonia on Monday.

Their only victory was against Liechtenstein in 2004 and they have been unsuccessful in 124 games.

Yesterday’s friendly game was almost called off due to logistical difficulties in getting to San Marino as they had to use a bus for six hours.

Seychelles, ranked 198th, have failed to win a game in their previous 45 international matches since an Africa cup of nations qualifying victory against Lesotho in 2016.

This was the second time San Marino were facing opposition from outside of Europe, having lost to the Cape Verde islands earlier this year, and they were looking forward to breaking their drought but the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
