In a Musanza derby, Green Eagles defeated FC MUZA 2-1 in a Week 20 fixture at Nakambala Stadium on Saturday in their pursuit to secure a place in the top four of the league standings.

Kondwani Mh’ango scored in the 7th minute for the home side, while Derrick Bulaya’s brace in the 1st and 61st minutes was enough to seal the victory for the visitors.

The victory has pushed Green Eagles to seventh place with 29 points from 20 games played.

Meanwhile, FC MUZA has dropped to 8th place with 28 points from 21 games played so far.

FC MUZA have suffered two consecutive defeats in their previous matches and will seek to bounce back to winning ways soon.

Speaking to journalists after the match, FC MUZA head coach Nowell Phiri expressed disappointment with the team’s performance.

“Today’s game was very disappointing. I think we tried our best despite conceding an early goal. It gave us a lot of work to come back, and we equalized. So in the second half again, a ball-keeping error, and then they scored their second goal,” he said.

“What is important is we just need to continue pushing, correcting our mistakes each and every week, but what is important is going into the next fixture we will do better,” promised the coach.

Meanwhile, Green Eagles coach Perry Mutapa praised his boys for displaying a good fight.

“I think it was a good game of football. Muza is a good team. I think it was a 50/50 affair; in the early minutes I think they controlled the flow of the game. But we organized, and we also started putting up passes, and then we scored,” he said.

“But we let MUZA control the game, but after 1-1 we came back into the game. We scored disallowed, but it’s a good win for us,” said Mutapa.

Green Eagles will now shift attention to their next match, as they will host Kansanshi Dynamos.
