Zesco United head coach, Emmanuel Siwale has bemoaned his side’s inconsistency following a 2-1 home defeat to Mufulira Wanderers in a Week 21 MTN Super League match played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Sunday.

Siwale has stressed the need for improved performances if the club is to return to continental football.

The visitors raced into a two-goal lead in the first half through Joseph Tembwe and John Foloko after capitalising on a slow start by the hosts. Substitute Amine Hiver pulled one back in the 82nd minute, but it proved too little too late for Zesco United.

The defeat leaves Zesco United in 11th position with 25 points, while Mufulira Wanderers climb to fifth place with 34 points from 21 matches.

Reacting after the match, Siwale admitted the team’s poor first-half display cost them the result.

“It’s a bad result, especially that we were playing at home. We did not plan for this, but it’s because of how we started. We did not play well in the first half and our friends capitalized on that,” he said.

He also expressed concern over the team’s lack of consistency despite coming from a 2-1 away win over Zanaco FC.

“We want to be consistent but if we win today and lose tomorrow, that’s not a good trend. We just have to work on it and keep pushing the boys,” he said.

Looking ahead, the coach emphasized the long-term objective of returning to continental competition.

“It’s vital. The continental experience made us see what it is. We will need to be consistent so that we can go back to where we ended and pick it up from there,” he said.

He added that with 12 matches remaining, the target is still achievable if the team begins collecting maximum points.
