SAD: One more Solwezi Academy Queens player in critical condition, while four and coach are confirmed dead

Three other players from the Mkushi road traffic accident involving Solwezi Academy Queens football club are still in serious condition while one player is in critical condition and required evacuation to Lusaka.

Tragic news for the Solwezi Academy Queens, whose bus was involved in a road traffic accident that resulted in five deaths and three serious injuries.

The terrible incident happened while on their way to Mpika for Week 3 of the FAZ Women’s National League match against Sporting Doves.

According to the Zambia police, the bus they were on had 17 players and 4 officials inside when it overturned this morning after the driver lost control.

“Three passengers died on the spot while the other two died at the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Chewe Mukuka (age unknown of Garden compound Lusaka), Memory (Other names not known) aged 24 of Chingola,Brian Matafwali (unknown age) of Stadium area Solwezi, Kyla Saidi aged 19 of Lusaka and Esther Kapupe (age and address unknown),” wrote the Police.

The 16 critically injured survivors are being treated at Mkushi District Hospital while the deceased’s bodies are kept in the hospital morgue pending an autopsy, according to the police.

Meanwhile, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has said one player among the survivors was in critical condition and needed to be evacuated to Lusaka, while three others were still in serious condition.

FAZ says the rest of the members of the delegation are being attended to for minor injuries in Mkushi.
