The Rangers beat Athletico Lusaka 2-1 on Sunday to extend their lead in the league standings.

In an exciting and entertaining match, both teams played to impress, but it was the home side that bagged the three points.

Rangers took the lead through Armand Tshibangu, who scored his first goal of the season, before substitute Angel Lubamba doubled it for the home side to seal a resounding victory.

Rangers head coach Robert Tembo said that they played against a good side but praised the team.

“Today’s game was the toughest game so far that we have played at home. These young boys are a good team; they play good football and they run throughout from the first whistle to the last whistle.

“We have really worked hard for us to beat them; that was the mentality in training and that’s exactly what we did in the match.”

Tembo wants Super League return

Tembo stated that the team will take care not to drop points in the league’s second round in their quest to return to Super League football.

“We will be planning each game as it comes. We face the Aguila Stars next; they are so young; they play the same type of football,” Tembo.  said. “So we shall go back to our drawing board and see what we need to do more because the second round is tense. We shouldn’t be dropping points anyhow; we just have to remain focused for us to achieve our targets.”

Rangers currently lead with the standings 48 points, followed by Lumwana Radiants with 43 and Athletico with 37 points.

Nchanga will face Aguila Stars FC in their next weekend.
