Newly appointed Kafue Eagles Football Club head coach Bupe Chewe says taking a team aiming to move away from the relegation zone comes with pressure, but he has assessed the squad and knows what needs to be done.

The Kafue Council-sponsored side appointed the former River Plate trainer as head coach in a season they have struggled to string wins, having just won three matches from 20 matches played.

Eagles sit in 13th position with 21 points, having drawn 12 matches in 20 matches.

In an interview with BolaNews, Chewe expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge and aims to demonstrate his capabilities to improve the team’s current situation.

“I feel excited because I think I love challenges, and this opportunity gives me a challenge to at least show my abilities,” Chewe said.

“It is virtually a huge task for me because the team is not in a good position. It’s a big challenge for me, and I love challenges.”

Eagles need to believe in themselves– Chewe

The former Kansanshi Dynamos assistant coach revealed that the team has a blend of young and experienced players who will be able to get the needed results.

“I think it’s normal in a coaching environment, whatever the position is, because a coach will try to have those positive results always. So, the coach will just need to manage and handle that pressure, and we just need to do our best here,” Chewe said.

“I watched the team playing the last game again, Kafue Celtic; the team is okay. I think it is just on the finishing part, in which they have been struggling. So I think it’s a reason they have accumulated so many draws.”

He added, “They [players] just need to be positive. They’re a good team, a mix of young and great experienced players. They just need to have that belief in themselves. They can do it. And now there is a need to improve performance from players because, without that, there’s no need for a coach.”

“So at the end of the season, if 1 or 2 players can be picked from the team for the CHAN, then it will be a great achievement for me.”
