The Crocs’ biggest breakthrough was the grand moves of Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu, who are now familiar faces in the English Premier League where they star for Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion football clubs respectively. The duo were previously at Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg before moving to England.
At the centre of all these glamorous moves for the Zambian stars is former Mali international, Fredrick Kanoute of 12 MANagement.
Recently, Kafue Celtic exported two of their top performers from last season, Albert Kangwanda and Peter Chikola, who are now on the books of Croatian side HNK Gorica.
Among many Zambian soccer fans and pundits, Kafue Celtic is said to be one of the few clubs with a well-defined pathway for its players’ development.
Kafue Celtic director Lee Kawanu was recently in Georgia to tour the facilities of FC Locomotive Tbilisi in order to create further player pathways for Celtic’s talented players.
The Zambian club signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with FC Locomotive Tbilisi on the 6th of September 2022 that will be in place until 31st December 2025.
According to some of the terms in the MOU, Kafue Celtic will be sending 6 players for trials every year until 2025. This will accord players an opportunity to sign professional contracts with the Tbilisi based club.
Apart from marketing and exposing players, the MOU comes with a yearly exchange program which will allow the Zambian club’s coaches further develop their football knowledge. It is understood the coaches’ development exchange program will cover both technical and tactical aspects.
The other important aspect of the MOU between the two clubs is the chance for Kafue Celtic FC to be sending one team to Georgia from one of the different age groups every year. The Young Crocs will be invited for training camps or tournaments in Georgia with FC Locomotive Tbilisi which is expected to greatly help the players through exposure to competitive matches and technologically influenced training.
