With only one game remaining before the season ends, City of Lusaka FC is one win away from gaining promotion to the Super League if Mufulira Wanderers or Mutondo Stars fail to win on the final day of the league.

City are fifth in the league standings with 53 points and can upset the tables in the National Division on the final day of the season.

At the start of this season, the club appointed Polish trainer Slawomir Cisakowski as head coach, taking over from Albert Mphande.

Slawomir described his team’s current league position as “the worst place to be,” in an exclusive interview with Bolanews.

“Fifth place is probably one of the worst places in the league,” he said. “Because you are just behind, you almost made it but you didn’t. So we are going to do our best in the last game to win it.”

He added that he was satisfied with the team’s performance this season.

The Polish said the team’s goal was to ensure that they were not relegated but now they want more.

“At the beginning of the season, the goal was just to maintain the place in the league and avoid relegation,” Slawomir stated. “You know how it is, when you start catching up with the top of the league, then you forget about goals from the beginning of the season and you want more.”

Slawomir, who holds a UEFA A licence, revealed that he has improved the team by utilising emerging technologies.

“I believe in knowledge and evidence-based coaching. If you watch a game, there are a lot of emotions…. And if you are influenced by emotions, what you see is not always what is happening,” he told BolaNews. “In many games, when I was disappointed with my team, I could say, poor performance. But when I calmed down and watched the game again, I would say, It wasn’t that bad. That’s why I always watch the games again; for me, you cannot improve in football if you don’t analyse it.”

“So how it works is that we have an analysis period where we watch the gam and then we know, like, we have to work on this one, this is looking good, or we have to improve on this, and then we present it to the players,” he added.
