Satchmo Chakawa, Roan United head coach, has dedicated the club’s historic promotion to the Zambian Premier League to his family and the late club president Pearson Mwale.

Roan United returns to the Super League for the first time since 2014.

The legendary Luanshya-based side earned promotion after a remarkable run that has seen them achieve back-to-back promotions—rising from the Copperbelt Provincial Division One League to the ZPL National League and now into Zambia’s top-flight league.

Speaking in an interview, Chakawa described the achievement as a deeply rewarding milestone in his young coaching career, highlighting the sacrifices made along the journey.

“Earning a promotion is truly an incredible feeling, especially after all the sacrifices I’ve made, like leaving my family and working tirelessly. It feels so rewarding and validating,” he said.

Chakawa said leading Roan United back to the elite league is both historic and personal.

“It’s incredible to see a club that had been out of the spotlight for so long reach such success. This moment is special, not just for me, but for the people of Luanshya, who have always supported this team,” he added.

Despite the achievement, Chakawa states that he remains focused on finishing the season strongly, insisting celebrations will only come after securing the league title.

“Mwale had faith in me” – Chakawa.

“My players and I will celebrate after the next game. Finishing at the top will be the ultimate reward considering our consistency,” he said.

The coach also paid tribute to the late Pearson Mwale, crediting him for taking a bold decision to entrust him with the team during a rebuilding phase.

“I’ve always believed in my ability, but not everyone was convinced. The late President Mwale had faith in me and made a tough decision. I’m sure he would be proud of what we’ve achieved,” Chakawa said.

He further dedicated the success to his family, particularly his wife, for their unwavering support during his time away from home.

“I dedicate this to my family, especially my wife, for their sacrifices and belief in me. Their support kept me going through the difficult moments,” he said.
