Aguila stars coach Justifies juju claims

The coach admitted that JuJu is being used in Zambian football and explained why his team avoided the stadium's main entrance during the weekend's National Division One League match.

Aguila Stars F.C. defeated Kafue Eagles 0-2 in a week 32 encounter played at Khosa Stadium, but the game was overshadowed when they opted to jump over the fence in order to gain access to Khosa Stadium instead of the main gate.

The club was thought to have allegedly avoided magical spells at the main entrance.

Kafue Eagles F.C. reported that several attempts by the Police to convince Aguila Stars to use the gate failed.

But speaking in an exclusive interview with Bolanews, Aguila Stars coach Makundika Sakala has clarified what transpired.

Sakala said that the pictures that are being circulated do not depict what exactly happened on Saturday at Khosa stadium.

He has accused Kafue Eagles of trying to paint a bad picture of his team.

“We arrived around 13:50 and we decided to warm up in the neighbouring pitch, on Naboyi school, knowing very well that the home team, doesn’t usually open the gates on time,” Sakala said. “So we just wanted to go to the stadium when the boys had already warmed up.”

“I was just told that due to time, the boys didn’t want to go round with the bus and just decided to jump on the wall fence. So it has nothing to do with fearing to use the gate. For me, they are just trying to paint a bad picture. We are a praying team; in fact, I’m a pastor,” he explained.

Aguila admits JuJu is being practiced in Zambian football

Sakala admitted that there are some Zambian teams that practice and believe in juju ( magical powers).

“We know that some other teams do believe so in Juju. Of course, this is Africa; even in Zambia, there are some teams that believe in juju. But if this juju was working, we could have been winning the World Cup….. But football is played on the field of play, not these juju things that they do,” he said.

Sakala also condemned his players’ behavior and advised them to use the formal entrance to the stadium the next time.

Meanwhile, despite his team currently sitting 13th in the league standings with 38 points he is confident that they will be able to survive relegation this season.

“Like I said last time, we are going to push. For us, we want to stay in the National League, and once we get a win against Malaiti Rangers, it will help us, and we will go on 41 points. And remember the teams who are above us; most of them are on 41 points, so we will keep on fighting.”

Aguila Stars will host Malaiti Rangers in their next fixture on Saturday.
