Mweemba explains why Kayuni is best suited as FAZ technical director

According to the resume on his LinkedIn page, Sunday Kayuni brings over 39 years of experience in football development, coaching education, and sports administration across Africa and beyond.

With Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba hinting at the appointment of Tanzanian football expert Sunday Kayuni as Zambia’s technical director, BolaNews takes a look at Kayuni’s résumé.

Kayuni, will replace Lyson Zulu, who left the FA in January, 2026.

Kayuni boasts nearly four decades in the game.
According to the resume on his LinkedIn page, Kayuni brings over 39 years of experience in football development, coaching education, and sports administration across Africa and beyond.

He holds multiple high-level coaching and sports management qualifications, including a CONMEBOL Professional Football Coaching (Pro) License, a Football Director of Technique Diploma from ATFA Argentina, and a Youth Football Development Diploma from the same institution.

He also possesses an Advanced Sports Management Course diploma from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a certificate in law from the University of Dar es Salaam, and a general conditioning diploma from the Hungarian University of Physical Education.

In addition, Kayuni is a holder of a CAF A Coaching Diploma, a CAF Advanced Coaching Certificate, CAF Technical Instructors’ Certificates, FIFA FUTURO I, II, and III certifications, as well as various coaching and technical education qualifications from the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).

Kayuni is a football expert – Mweemba.

He boasts of vast experience spanning youth and senior football structures, having worked with clubs from the fourth division level to top-flight competition, as well as national youth teams at U-10, U-12, U-15, U-17, and U-20 levels, and senior national teams including Tanzania Mainland and the Taifa Stars.

Among his notable achievements are league titles with Young Africans of Tanzania in 1995, 1996, and 1997 and with AFC Leopards of Kenya in 1998. He was also part of the Tanzania Mainland national team setup that won the CECAFA Challenge Cup in 1994.

Beyond the pitch, Kayuni has held senior technical and development roles, including Technical Director of the Tanzania Football Federation from 2006 to 2013 and Education Officer at the same institution from 2007 to 2013. He has also served as a CAF Elite Instructor, CAF Club Licensing Instructor, and TFF Technical Instructor, contributing to the development of coaches across the continent.

Mweemba described Kayuni as a football expert.

“He is highly qualified and has trained most of our coaches here in Zambia, including some of the coaches like George Lwandamina, who is the standing-in coach for the Zambian national team. So this man is highly qualified,”

Mweemba said when he appeared on the Kenny T 1-on-1 Podcast on Thursday.
