Malawi sets stage for 2024 COSAFA/CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers

Everything is ready for Malawi to host the 2024 COSAFA/CAF Women’s Champions League qualifications, according to the Local Organizing Committee.

Malawi is hosting its fourth COSAFA tournament. The U17 COSAFA tournament in 2019; in 2022, the COSAFA Schools U17 boys’ and girls’ tournaments were held there.

Kamuzu Stadium and St Andrews will serve as training grounds, with Blanytre’s Mpira Stadium serving as the competition’s only match venue.

Local Organizing Committee Chairperson Felister Dossi says the eight-team tournament will run from 15th to August 24 this year.

Participating teams include Malawi’s Ascent Academy, Herentals Queens from Zimbabwe, Ongos Ladies of Namibia, South Africa’s University of Western Cape.

Others include Young Buffaloes of Eswatini, Green Buffaloes of Zambia, Gaborone United Ladies of Botswana, and UD Lichinga of Mozambique. Teams that are taking part will begin flying into Malawi on Tuesday of next week.

“We are excited to host this competition for the first time and ready to welcome the best Women’s Football Clubs in Southern Africa to Malawi,” she said.

“We are finalizing all the requirements as per the standards of the competition like venues, accommodation, transport, security and medical,” she added.
