Paris Saint Germain star, Lionel Messi’s elder brother, Matias Messi, took to Instagram to apologize for the statements he made about FC Barcelona that are making the rounds on social media.
On Wednesday, a now-deleted video from a twitch account, labajada10, got everyone talking as Matias made damning comments about his brother’s former club.
In one of the statements, Matias said, “I don’t know about you, but Barcelona became known thanks to Messi. Nobody knew about them before. Whoever’s had the chance to go to Barcelona and see the museum, you can see that the museum is Messi.”
He also stated that there’s no chance his brother will return to the Catalan club.
Lionel’s entourage denied sharing the same sentiment as Matias, stating it was just his personal opinion.

However, on Thursday, Matias via his Instagram account penned an apology to FC Barcelona and its fans.
“I want to vindicate myself for what I said on social networks. I was just with my son and friends, making a joke, ” he wrote. “How am I going to think that of a club as big as Barcelona and its history, which has given both my family and Leo a lot? For us, Catalonia is our second home, and that is well known. I’m very sorry and apologize to everyone, especially Barcelona fans.”
Meanwhile, Lionel is still undergoing talks for a contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain, but with the agreement still pending, a return to his beloved FC Barcelona in the summer could still be on the cards.
