The fall of the Belgium magician

Since joining Real Madrid in 2019 on an initial £88.3 million deal rising to £142m, Eden Hazard failed to live up to the hype.

For a man going by the name of Ederzinho, Stamford Bridge was without a doubt the Garden of Eden Hazard. Defenders in the Premier League needed to be aware of Hazard tricks on the ball. He had dribbling skills that were similar to those of a Brazilian or merely a magician with the ball.

His time at Real Madrid was nothing more than an enigma, and various rumors indicate that Hazard will be a free agent at the end of this month.

It is evident the Chelsea legend was only a shadow of himself in the Spanish capital. Nibbling injuries only made it difficult for him to establish himself. He never quite showed the glitz and glamour that initiated the big money move.

Since joining Los Blancos in 2019 on an initial £88.3million deal rising to £142m, Hazard failed to live up to the hype. The Belgium only managed to find the back of the net on seven occasions in 73 matches.

Hazard won nearly everything at club level during his time at Chelsea and was an essential ingredient in their success. In his last game for the Blues, he lifted the Europa League following a victory over Arsenal back in 2019.

Eden Hazard

In eight years at the blues, his best season came during the 2014/2015 season when he was awarded player of the season as Chelsea became Premier League champions. The trophies didn’t stop coming when Hazard became a Madridista, lifting 8 trophies.

A return to Chelsea or retirement?

Eden Hazard will now decide on where he will play next season, his only 32 but reports suggest he may be contemplating retirement.

Real Madrid have saved part of his huge salary by terminating his contract one year before. At the bridge, Hazard was a legend; at Santiago Bernabéu, he was warming the bench. Could he make a return to Chelsea?
