Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has been admitted to hospital after being diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis, the club has announced.
The 26-year-old France captain was absent from Tuesday’s training session due to a fever and did not feature in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
In a statement released on Thursday, Real Madrid confirmed that Mbappé is suffering from acute gastroenteritis, an intestinal infection that typically causes symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea.
“Our player Kylian Mbappé has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalized for various tests and treatment,” read the club’s medical report.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s fixture against Pachuca, head coach Xabi Alonso admitted there is uncertainty over Mbappé’s availability.
“I don’t know if Mbappé will be back for the next game. We’ll see. He wasn’t doing well in the last two days. He’s sick,” Alonso said.
Mbappé has had an impressive debut season at Real, netting 43 goals in 56 appearances across all competitions after his move from PSG on a free transfer.
