Barcelona have completed a historic domestic treble after their 2-0 win over Espanyol crowned them champions of La Liga for the 28th time in their history.
As expected, it was teenage superstar Lamine Yamal who delivered the decisive moment, curling a magnificent strike into the top corner of Joan Garcia’s goal. Fermin Lopez then added a second deep into stoppage time, sparking jubilant celebrations.
The 17-year-old sensation opened the scoring with his trademark curler in the 53rd minute, before turning provider for Lopez’s late clincher.
With two games still to play, Barça have officially secured the league title.
It has been a phenomenal debut season for Hansi Flick as Barcelona manager. The La Liga trophy now joins the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup in the club’s trophy cabinet, capping a remarkable return to prominence in the 2024-25 campaign. This marks Spain’s first domestic treble in 36 years.
“With Barça, you have to win titles, and three is great. I suffered after the semi-final in Milan, but with three titles, I think both the club and the players like me… there’s something to be happy about,” Flick said after the game.
Barcelona’s dominance in the second half of the season has been undeniable. They remain unbeaten in La Liga since the turn of the year, boasting a record of 15 wins, two draws, and no losses in 17 matches.
Having secured emphatic league victories over arch-rivals Real Madrid, the Catalans deservedly dethrone Los Blancos to claim their 28th La Liga title. The 2024-25 trophy will be adorned with Blaugrana-colored ribbons, a fitting symbol of Barcelona’s triumphant season.
