Tonight, Malawi will host the Brave Warriors of Namibia at Bingu National Stadium in Group H of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
Malawi head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to continue their strong performance but emphasized the need for his players to stay focused in order to secure positive results.
“You may think Namibia is a small team, but there are no small teams in Africa; it is a team that can surprise us. This is the World Cup, a big tournament that demands we be ready for any team that comes across,” he said.
Speaking on his team’s preparations, Pasuwa said the week they have been in camp, he is impressed in terms of physical fitness.
“We took most of the guys we used during Chan and Afcon qualifiers. The 16 local players plus other foreign-based players have given us what we want, and we are ready to take on Namibia,” he said.
Pasuwa explains exclusions
Commenting on players he dropped, including Silver Strikers forward Binwell Katinji, who scored twice in two games Malawi played against Comoros in the Chan qualifiers, Pasuwa said people should know that as coaches they were given targets and that they are playing in different tournaments.
“Katinji is a good player, but you know that another factor we are considering is the development side; other players we have are here not to play but to know what we are doing,” he said.
The two teams played to a one-all draw in 2021, while Malawi won 2-1 in 2019. In group H, Malawi has 6 points, while Namibia has 8 points.
