Striker Gabadinho Mhango’s incredible goal from 43 yards out in the second half of the match against Namibia was exactly what Malawi needed to win the most points possible on the road.

Malawi were victorious 2-1 in Francistown, Botswana, the home ground for Namibia, as they do not have a qualified stadium to host matches.

Malawi scored at 5 minutes in the first half through Richard Mbulu after winning the ball inside the penalty box as the goalkeeper delayed in clearing it, and Mbulu calmly slotted the ball home.

The first half ended with Malawi narrowly leading 1-0 over Namibia. At 53 minutes, Mhango won the ball at the center line, he could not hesitate but to send the ball into the net after the goalkeeper had moved from his line to double Malawi’s lead.

At 86 minutes the host pulled one back through David Ndeunyema heading home a lovely cross from the left flank, but it was not enough to disappoint Malawi.

“It sounds good that we managed to win; that was our plan to win because it will give us confidence ahead of upcoming games. I am also happy with how we played today; we created a number of scoring chances, just that we failed to utilize them.

“We will go home with this win as we welcome Liberia in Malawi; all in all, let’s celebrate our win today,” said Pasuwa.
