The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that it has parted ways with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following back-to-back defeats in friendly games.

The Black Stars have played two friendly matches in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada in June.

Addo’s side suffered an unexpected 5-1 defeat to Austria last Friday before falling 2-1 to Germany on Monday night.

In a statement, the GFA announced that the 50-year-old’s departure as head coach of the Ghana national team is with immediate effect.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the head coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately,” the statement read.

“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”

The association revealed that it will soon outline the next steps towards appointing a new coach.

“The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course,” GFA stated.

During his second stint as head coach of the Black Stars, he recorded eight wins, five draws, and nine losses in the 22 games he took charge of.

Despite failing to qualify the team for the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Addo made history by becoming the first coach in Ghanaian history to guide the Black Stars to two World Cups.
