With a 1-2 victory over the Three Lions of England on Saturday night, defending champions France have kept up their title defense.
After 17 minutes of play, Auréllien Tchouaméni scored for Les Bleus with a shot from outside the 18-yard box, making the score 0-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Bukayo Saka was hauled down in the box by Tchouaméni, earning England a penalty, which Harry Kane converted to tie the score for the Three Lions.
However, just when the match seemed evenly matched, Olivia Giroud fired the French back in the lead with a thumping header past Jordan Pickford at the near post to make it 1-2.
England were given a glimmer of hope in the 82nd minute when they won another penalty after Theo Hernandez’s careless push on Mason Mount in the box.
Kane stepped up again for the second time, but this time he blazed it high over the bar.
The two goals were enough for France to advance to the semifinals as they look to become the first country to defend the World Cup in 60 years.
The semifinal matches are now confirmed: the French will face Morocco on Tuesday, while Argentina will battle it out with Croatia for a place in the final.
